This birthday is a tough one. My Dad would serenad

This birthday is a tough one. My Dad would serenade me with a birthday song every year. I’m at the stage of my grief where it’s starting to set in that this is real, & there aren’t enough words to describe how much I miss my Dad.

But here’s what I know - I have felt more supported & loved & cared for in this season of my life. To my friends & loved ones that continue to check in on me - thank you from the bottom of my heart. I didn’t know I could be loved this much!! My oh my, I am a lucky girl 💛

Dad, I miss your big bear hugs & our Sunday conversations when you would call to check in on me! Thank you for always accepting me for who I am - my impatience when things weren’t happening fast enough, my lead foot when driving, my perfectionism when recording vocals (“just one more pass, Dad! Punch me in.”) Singing in church with you for 10 years was a joy. We got to make not one, but 3 albums together. I’m looking forward to releasing the music we recorded last year. Thank you for always believing in me & encouraging me to share my gifts. How lucky I am to be your daughter! Happy Heavenly Fathers Day ♥️

Just taking a moment to reflect on the last few weeks, and how much joy there’s been while simultaneously grieving.

The magical, serendipitous moments like being on the same gig as Diana Ross, who my Mom has worked with for nearly 20 years, receiving the 2024 Benny Golson Jazz Master Award on behalf of my Dad, cooking with my grandma (the woman who inspired me to bake!), & quality time with my dear friends and family.

This season of life is teaching me to make space for everything - the joy and sadness, the beauty and dread. I’m grateful for it all ✨💗
